Keep Going! 30 Day Challenge
Sponsor Me to Help Teens in the Peace Drum Project
In my yoga practice, I have learned that real progress is made in those moments that I want to give up but keep going instead. So I have decided to do a 30 day challenge- practicing every day for 30 days in a row. This 90 minute practice takes place in a room heated to 105 degrees and involves 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises. I have also decided to dedicate this endeavor to Peace Drum Project, a program run by the Cooperative Artists Institute whose board I have served on for over four years.
This program brings teenagers and elderly people from my community together through storytelling and visual art. The teens demonstrate, year after year, what it truly means to keep going. The graduation rate of teens who participate in this program (97%) far exceeds that of other Boston Public high school students (less than 70 %). They transform into role models for their peers, younger children, and families. These once-misunderstood teens become friends to local elders who might otherwise be isolated.
My goal is to raise money to help fund one of the awards that these teens receive at the end of the school year, before they venture off to college. If I am successful, I may make this a yearly challenge for myself and will hopefully recruit other yogis to join me. We may be able to create our own scholarship!
If you would like to support me, I will be practicing every day from November 1 – 30 at either of the Quincy or the West Roxbury Bikram studios. Please join me in the hot room to show your support! If you make a donation before November 15 you will be entered into a raffle to win a custom made Peace Drum.
Please send a check to my address, but the tax deductible donation should be payable to Cooperative Artists Institute.
Thank you for taking the time to support me!
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Elia
