Days 6, 7, 8, & 9
My computer crashed, so I have not been blogging every day after class like I had intended. My netbook hard drive just died, after having it only a few months. I'm bummed but determined not to get too down about it!
The past few classes have been going pretty smoothly. I feel like I am starting to get my groove back and can do a full class without struggling too hard. Part of the reason that I started the 30 day challenge was to get myself back into a regular practice, and I am happy to be back!
Last Friday, day 6 of the challenge, I was not sure I could make it to class. I thought I was coming down with the flu. I felt weak, had the chills, and was really out of it. I took a walk and halfway through felt like I could not make it back to the car. I was afraid. I decided to try a breathing exercise that I learned in yoga: breathe in the good stuff, breathe out the bad. So I looked up at the sun and breathed it in, while on my exhale I tried to expel my fear of being ill. Later that evening in class, I tried the same exercise: breathe in the sun, breathe out the fear. It felt pretty powerful and helped my postures when I was able to focus on that. I am excited because it is like having a new tool to use in class when I am struggling.
Day 9, today, I went to the West Roxbury studio. It was strange to practice without having buddies around to glance at for support. But I was definitely not on my own! The class was full and had a different energy to it. One thing the teacher talked about was how she noticed that all students have a reservoir of untapped potential that comes out during yoga practice. This reminded me of the theme of my challenge: keep going. When you think you are out of energy and suddenly you are able to go deeper into the posture. It is like making a discovery within yourself. Each class that I do, I think I am going to do the same thing as the day before. But I am always surprised at how, after doing the same 26 postures each class, I feel like I had a unique experience. Something different happens each time I show up, and I know I have to keep on pushing...
Liz nice to see you back at the practice, you were missed. It was nice to talk to you tonight.Keep up the good work.
